Mourad Besbes (pronounced Bez-Bez) cooks with love and loves to cook. The youngest of eight children, Mourad grew up in the heart of the old town of Tunisia’s second city, Sfax. The scents of cumin, paprika, coriander and turmeric were carried on the Mediterranean breezes that threaded their way through his childhood, and fresh fish and sea-food were always in plentiful supply. Olive and almond groves surrounded his home town, and the peppers grew hot under the desert sun.
Mourad learnt to cook at his mother’s knee. Widowed, when Mourad was very young, Douja needed help to run a home with eight children. From a very early age the family, home-cooking secrets passed to Mourad, and he adapted very quickly to cooking for many!
Mourad settled in the UK in 2000 and has been running his own catering business since 2005. These days Mourad combines his Brighton and Hove Catering business with his role as wedding and events co-ordinator at Brighton’s iconic, sea-front bandstand.
